The Cost of Comfort

Every year you spend inside a life that is merely bearable is a year you pay for twice — once in what you did not do, and once in the confidence you did not build.

Comfort is not a reward. It is a bill, and it arrives quietly, in instalments.

The arithmetic nobody runs

Ask a client what they want and they will describe a feeling. Ask them what they are willing to be uncomfortable for, and most go quiet. That silence is the whole game. The decision is rarely between good and bad; it is between easy and expensive.

The life you have is the exact shape of the problems you agreed to solve.

What I ask instead

  • What are you protecting by staying exactly where you are?
  • If nothing changes for three years, what does that cost you?

Write the number down. It is almost always larger than the discomfort you have been avoiding.
